A few years back my Mum drew a chameleon which I worked into a felt decoration design, and subsequently a posable 3D felt chameleon. I’ve only had a couple of experiences of working from other people’s drawings (with permission of course) but it’s good fun - I once created a jolly posable felt dog based on a drawing made by a customer. I was so pleased with how the chameleon turned out I kept thinking I must make another, but other projects took over - not only this, but I confess couldn’t remember how on earth I’d made his beaded eyes!
Then a couple of months back I had a commissions request to make a pink chamelon, inspired by a special pet. It was lovely to have the opportunity to challenge myself to make a chameleon again, and I set about attempting to remind myself how I’d made the eyes! I spent some time experimenting and making a practice eye, eventually working out a method which allowed me to construct these distinctive eyes from seed beads.
I so appreciate all commissions, but when I am asked to make a more complex felt animal which pushes my creativity, it can be a particularly satisfying process. The finished chamelon can be posed to sit on a hand, or her special log.
As well as working on this little character, I’ve been making more decorations to commission, along with gradually building up a small selection which will be part of a shop update - hopefully in a month or so’s time - I shall send around a newsletter when I have a date!
I am currently open to commissions for existing decoration designs; you can pop over to the commissions page on my website if you would like to find out more.
Best wishes all!
These are fabulous pieces of work, but, and I know I always say this, they look even better in real life. I'm hoping for one of my own, one of the days...
